Hold Your Breath - Isaiah Summerhays

Let me know what you guys think. I’ve been working on this for a good long while every chance I get a minute away from work. I don’t know how badly it sucks until you all tell me. So please tell me. In as few or as many words as you would like.

We got a box of MXL 840’s at work today. I’ve been needing something new to use as drum overheads and figured I’d spend a couple bucks to see how we’ll they work before I drop on some SM81’s or 414’s. I won’t have a chance to track anything until tomorrow night but hopefully it’s not a letdown.

Isaiah Summerhays - Hold Your Breath (WIP Mix 15)

Just another preview of what’s going on in the world of my recording. Retracked some drums, though there’s parts (if not the whole thing that were terrible done and will be done once again) and all the vocal parts with the new ST69. Let me know what you think.

Let the fun begin?

Trifecta!

Ozone 5, Nectar and now Alloy. Short of buying some sweet Waves plug-ins, I have a pretty full set of mixing tools.

New vocal mic- Sterling Audio’s ST69 Tube condenser. It’s pretty similar sounding to my cheap MXL 990 but has a bit more air behind it. Also, I picked up the little mic shield to try to get the most out of tracking vocals in a bedroom.

I’m in love with iZotope’s stuff so far. Picked up Nectar about a week ago. Next up will be Alloy 2. I downloaded the demo version and it has done wondrous things to my kick, snare hi-hats and bass. Then again… that’s everything I put it on so far so I’m sure it’ll do great across the board.

Focusrite Saffire Suite

Finally got it installed today. After what seems to have been an eternity of phone calls to tec. support.

Picked up iZotope’s Ozone 5 Mastering software today.
Tried it out for literally five seconds and for the money it’s astounding. I’ll use it in depth tomorrow and hopefully it will continue to live up to what I’ve seen so far.

Isaiah Summerhays - Hold Your Breath (WIP)

Picked up a Senheiser e 609 today. I’m going to do some toying around with it on a snare and of course, guitar cab tomorrow if I get a chance.

I also snagged a label maker to finally put an end to the madness that is figuring out which cable is tied into which input on my interface.

Spent the afternoon recording my friend Isaiah’s new song. Here it is, hardly mixed and nowhere near fully recorded. However we ran out of daylight and this is where it get’s put on pause for a day or two at least.

I’m tracking drums for Isaiah’s newest song tomorrow. He’ll be here with me to make a full evening of it so I picked up a second set of Sony MDR 7506’s so nobody is left with a bad set of cans.

Picked up a Korg nanoKontrol2. It’s definitely no Avid Artist mix but for the price it’ll do wonderfully until I can save up another grand to drop.

Two minutes of conversation with Matt and work and I really want to pick up a Focusrite OctoPre MKII Dynamic or Octopre MKII to expand my interface so I can do full on live recording work for bands as well as for tracking practices with the guys
